I’m in the planning stages of designing/building a new oven. My original plan was to cast a home brew dome, like my first oven attempt 11 years ago. I found myself in a YouTube vortex about people making DIY firebricks for kilns and forges and it got me thinking.

This oven will only have a wall to wall floor diameter of 26”. My first oven has cracks all over. It’s one solid cast, so I’m either going to cast the new one with joints, or make home brew bricks and mortar. Same exact material, just in much smaller chunks.

Other than taking the time build molds and making bricks, what are the downsides? Is this a horrible idea?

Otherwise my plan is to cast 3 different segments and mortar them together.

Thoughts?
