Re: Paella on the rocks
Linda, just borrow the one I gave CJ! It needs to have the bottom blackened! It would do a pound of rice without a problem, maybe even 2 pounds. I did a kilo in mine which was a little bigger but there was still room in the pan.
I'd call some of the Spanish restaurants and ask them where they buy their pans or call a restaurant supply. See if yoiu can find a speciality Spanish store.......I did my first one in an old frying pan!
I posted the recipe on FB last year.
Good luck.

Re: Paella on the rocks
Jim, I must try making paella on the rocks in P.E.I. - when the tides out of course. I've made that mistake already - my first year there. I very much enjoyed your paella at Jim's Bread Bash last Sat. Where in Toronto do you think
I could purchase a paella pan? Paella, bread, wine and the beautiful stars - what could be better!

Re: Paella on the rocks
Ludington, SJim? Sounds like home.
"Hot Dog" eh? I might try that term of endearment on my Lady.
[Maybe not].
Best I go do something constructive - like hunt up the makings for tonight's paella.
Luddite Jeff.

Hey thanks for posting, nice to meet you
I like that picture: "a glass of wine, a loaf of bread, a haunch of hog, and thou" or words to that effect.

Re: Paella on the rocks
Ed, unfortunately I'm not a mushroom guy. I have a friend who collects morels by thousands up by Ludington...sounds like a party!
Hey, I want to come out and check out your oven some weekend soon...
...kick around some ideas on ovens....

Re: Paella on the rocks
Morels are acutally poisonous - mildly. I read that last night. You're not supposed to eat them with alcohol! Yeah, right! Sounds like a great way to die.
SJ- Looks like a great spot. Reminds me of Puget Sound in WA in the Summers. We used to just pull up on a beach, dig clams, catch crabs, go crazy. Now, its all homes and no trespassing. Which one are you? The one in the shorts with glasses and a smoke, poking at the paellla?

Paella on the rocks
This was one from the shores of the Great Lakes....
First find some ground that's nearly level and some rocks for the pan to sit on above the fire.....scrounge driftwood.
Build temportary windbreaks, lay out ingredients, drink wine, smoke cigars.
Sear, stir and pour.....let rest and eat!
Wait for meteor showers and play Dark Side of the Moon.
It could always be worse...
Jim the paella preacher from here or there!
.....have pan will travel!
