    Re: Sean's Oven

I decided to go with vermiculite instead of FB board because of the shipping costs. I have 4.5 inches of vermiculite with the second pour, shouldn?t that be enough? If not Maybe I will reconsider the FB board. Is it worth the additional money?

I don?t have a definite plan for the right side I was thinking it would be a prep surface.

      Re: Sean's Oven

Only you can determine what something is worth. From what I've read on the post, 4 inches of vermiculite should provide the same insulation value as 2 inches of FB board. Sure, you can never have too much insulation. But at some point you have to draw the line. I think you'll be fine.

Don't take my word, though. I'm not even at that point of my build yet!!

The prep surface area on the side is a great idea. I'm kicking myself now for not building one.

I think vermiculite insulation under the oven is fine - works on mine anyway...

I know other builders have other opinions and maybe it would be even better with FB board, who knows? The fact remains, you can build a really cool oven with great heat retention with only vermiculite for insulation.

Complete Oven! Its not a pretty as some of the other ones on here but I think it should work. Now for the fun part, finishing it!

Wow, with that great dome shape, I'd be sorely tempted to do something flashy in a russian style:

Curing the past few days. I may have heated it up a little too much, I have some small cracks around the outside. Suggestions?

I noticed you are in California - Cracks Happen. Seriously, I had a few small ones and just wrapped it up. You should be good. Post some pictures, it really helps us to troubleshoot.

                              Hello!

We cooked our first pizza last night. The first one went outside as a pizza came in as a calzone hahah still learning how to put it in the oven. Attached is a pic of the ovens progress. The third pizza worked out ok but still learning.

I need to clean the bricks, any good methods for that?
