Hi there everyone, finally going to take the plunge after two years of debating whether to build an oven or not, just starting to source materials for build but could you answer me a question? can I use old fashioned solid clay bricks for my dome oven as I am having problems finding fire bricks . Hope to her from you all soon.

    Re: Brick types

"Pressed reds" is the UK term for a hard, high-fired brick that is suitable for oven building. Soft, common brick, less so. This problem comes up because firebrick is inexplicably expensive there. The test is if a brick breaks cleanly or crumbles when struck with a hammer.

Many thanks for your prompt reply, I have sourced new fire bricks but I was hoping to use reclaimed ones new bricks are ?1.50 each which I think is quite expensive anyway best of luck with your project looks like you have evrything in hand.
      Cheers
