  • Pauls new outdoor kitchen and oven in Melbourne

    Well.....
    I've begun.
I'm not one for heaps of detailed cad drawings so this is the yard I have to start with and my ripper plan to transform it into something we can really make use of.

The plan is to split level the yard, it has about a 2 feet fall from back down to the house. I will screen off the clothes line utility area with some decorative merbau slats, and slate pave the main area.
My existing infra red gas giller will tuck into the corner, with an eight foot stone bench top running along to my oven. Around the corner at 90 degrees I am planning on an open fire doubling as a woodfired grill pit, maybe with a rotissary function. This last bit is the part that is least formulated in my mind so I'll see how I go.
As my friends and I are mad golfers I plan on a putting green on the upper level. Pizza, beer and putting competitions are in my dreams.

Dug out the footing for the oven this afternoon.
      1400mm x 1400mm (4'8x 4'8) with an angled corner.

I think I am going to go for a precast oven, but I may yet get motivated and build from scratch. No matter what it will be a Pompeii shape.
My masonry is going to be bluestone pitchers and I'd designed my footing to carry whatever it is I end up building. In other words it's over engineered. LoL

Anyway, I'm off and running so let's see how this little project transpires.
Wonder if I can get it close to usable for Christmas?
          Cheers everyone,

                Mark,
Tough digging? Yeah a little clay, but for the most part I find all digging tough. I'm better with the couch and the remote control.....LoL

                John,
Thanks for the encouragement. It looks ok on paper but I guess it might evolve somewhat as I go.

Hey, last night I was out in the half dark and pouring rain concreting some posts in....is this normal????? Damn having to go to work gets in the way of my plans.

                  Making progress. SLOWLY.
Boxed up and ready for concrete, including oven base footing.

                    And some concrete finally poured.
The dark grey is a stenciled random brick pattern which should look quite good once the pattern is removed and some sealer applied.

I managed to get some stainless steel benches to use in my kitchen. They are from a supermarket refurb and I got I got them for a good price.

So all being well I am building my base on Saturday. I have ordered some limestone look blocks, I'm hoping it looks great.

                          Paul,

                          It's looking good so far.

From the look of the photos of the SS bench, you are storing your building materials in the lounge room. How have you managed to get away with this?

                              The concrete pattern looks ok.
And just a pick of a row of bricks laid out for the oven base to get a feel for what it will look like.
