Funny, my first pizza is normally the best. I guess I need more work with fire management, huh?

Remember, your oven is hotter in back than in front. If you suspect it's too hot, put your first pizza more in the front. You can always move it back to brown the bottom if it's still pale when it sets up.

My first waffle isn't the best either. Maybe it's genetic.

Does anybody have a Belgian waffle maker? They a lot of fun.

I have a waffle maker. My boys prefer the frozen, toaster ones.

I sometimes wonder if our kids can develop a "taste" for artificial additives. When you make the real thing, and they say -- but it doesn't taste like the frozen (or canned) ones -- it makes you wonder.

              Hmmmm.

Good observation James. Something about the highly processed foods tastes better to the youngins than fresh healthy food. Certainly the added sugars and salts lead their brains to believe that good food has these tastes. Learning to eat well often seems to take someone more knowledgeable in cooking/eating well to point out the subtleties of fine food/drink.

Yes, but I've often wondered what suvival trait it is that makes children want to eat only one or two chosen foods, avoid anything healthy, not want to try anything new... It seems to be so ingrained and universal. I make a point of cooking and eating healthily, but are my children any different? Nope...

You'd think with survival of the fittest and all that, the children who ate the most varied diet would have an advantage, you'd be genetically geared to try different foods. But maybe neadethal children who stuck to eating only what they knew were less at risk of getting accidentally poisoned.

Natures point... eat high energy foods... Fats, sugars.

                            I love it!!!

WRT to the thread.....I did get my oven hot enough to melt a wine bottle - I took it out after it sluffed and it cracked apart. I should have put the insulated door on and let it set for a day....

It would have been pretty embarassing if it stuck to the floor....

Did you now? ...I must try that! Imagine what lovely mosaics you could make with half melted bits of glass. I'm just stuck on what to put the glass in. Sticking a paper cookie sheet underneath it won't work ... metal tray maybe... but what if the metal melts...?

Ah I have it, some left over firebricks. Watch this space...

You could "slump" your glass to match the curve of the dome. You just have to build a fireclay or vermiculite concrete form to slump it over.

Warm Glass -- glass fusing, fused glass, slumping, kiln-forming, casting, glass kiln, kiln
