    Gudday Bruce
Good to here you happy with your work
How is the "home brew mortar" working for you. You have a special perspective being a totally novice bricklayer who has used 2 types of mortar! I would like to here you thoughts as I have only used the homebrew and not the refractory.
    Regards dave

I got the shop vac out and cleaned out the dust and debris. I decided to take the plywood out since I was going to need to retape it. I must say it cleaned up nicely and looks pretty good to me.

They are surprisingly forgiving in functional use.

When I started my goals were to keep under budget, have a short build time, and have one of the tightest builds. The budget went first, the build time next, and at this point functional appears aspirational.

Pretty much finished mortaring the next course. Ran out of mortar (and stamina) with three bricks left. Won't win any beauty contests but I think will be functional. I tried to stagger the joints but missed a few. Bruce

I originally placed the saw on the other side of fig tree and further from the house because of concern about brick dust. With the wet saw it hasn't been an issue. Dave has it right though, with the chair though distance is not an issue. Bruce

Glad it's you not me working in that heat. Gets like that here too in summer. Winter here is diffinitly the best time ...usually no rain either but not this year.
Suppose that chair would make it easy to get to get from the oven to saw and back us mere mortals would have saw legs by now!
A bit of constructive criticism , you vertical joints are starting to line up you'll find this happening more often as the next ring of brick is smaller than the previous. Of course you have to introduce a 1/4 brick a bit more often. And if you start directly at the back of the oven with each fresh course the 1/4 brick should end up further up the sides and front were they are not as noticeable.
Mine own....I checked, all over the place, next oven I might be more dispiplinedmight
    Regards Dave
