    Re: Thickness of vermiculite concrete

You can always raise your floor in front of the hearth, many easy ways to do that. I actually was thinking of a two-tiiered outdoor kitchen design when I started the planning.

The first thing that stuck in my head when I started reading this forum was:

    Insulate
    Insulate
    And then Insulate some more!

I am going with 4" ceramic board on the floor and 4-5 inches on the dome, probably will have enough to get to 7" on the dome.

interesting idea...not sure how it would go in my area.

def insulating the dome without fail...just more the hearth...

but yea gonna wear the extra height i think...

        G'day
I'm 5'6" my wife's 5" ( she says). I built the kitchen for the child bride (except the top cupboards) so I built a 8 in stool so she could reach.
        That thing I constantly kick.
She leaves the top cupboard doors open which catch me at eyebrow Level.
I steal what I need and retreat into the yard to the WFO oven its, safer that way.
        Regards Dave

          Re: Thickness of vermiculite concrete

2 inches of CF board is pretty much the minimum recommended. Most builders will go with 3 inches (75mm, if you prefer ) these days

So dave, going with the 4 inch vermiculite concrete layer...

the cooking floor will be 1.3 metres high...im 1.9 so no worries there.

thanks for the convincing...i think thats all i needed haha.

                haha true that!

it isn't ridiculous...if it is i'll think about the second level of floor in the area...might go ok...

Alex, I ran across this old pic of a friends party. You were worried by the height, this cook made it work.

Ducks disease or not I reckon he needs a work platform to wrangle anything much out of there.

I like the copper roof and the finish on the enclosure.
                          Cheers ......... Steve
