Re: Up up and away (dome)

Alright! Hope to have pictures of a finished
Dome today. Next will be the arch and flue
Opening. For a 42" is 6" opening enough?
Being in the arch the opening will be rectangle.
What size did you guys find lent to a good draw?

          G'day Bubb
Great to see that final keystone in position. It's always a great feeling.
In answer to you questions. Yes you could build a square entranceway, but you got the skills, why not an arch? They are stronger anyway. I would make it big its better to operate you oven through a larger entrance. As for a 6 in pipe being big enough, no, you'll need a 8 in for a a 42 in oven. Do make a smoke chamber above the oven mouth as wide as the mouth so it will collect the smoke and then funnel it in to the pipe. If you do this none of the smoke can bypass that 8 in pipe and will go up that chimney.
          Hope something here helps

CobblerDave yep I'm doing a arch. Could you
Explain what a smoke chamber is? Is that a wider
Opening at the bottom tapering into the flue? Can I
Use regular brick for a flue with home brew mortar?

This is the front I want to do.. Trying to deside if they
Used a tericota pipe and bricked around it?

                G'day
                http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/21/4...tml#post148793
Sorry I'm on holidays at the moment and only have the phone.
This link, if I have it right will put you about page 21 of V-Wizs build its got some good pics particularly the one showing the smoke chamber in front of the oven mouth nice and wide so the smoke can't bypass it and tapered so it funnels it into the chimney proper.
There's no problem in using ordinary brick on your oven entrance chimney area in fact when you consider how plane and ordinary firebrick is, it gives you a chance to make a bit of a statement.
Hope this helps with your decisions
                Regards dave

That was perfect!!! It gave me all the answers
I needed! I'll do flue and first course in fire brick
Then go up regular brick... Thanks so much Dave.
Wish I could repay you in pizza!

CobblerDave from the pics you gave link to
I made my smoke chamber. I cut as big as I
Could but wanted enough shoulder for strength.

                    Now laying up face

Really happy with progress so far. I'm not doing too
Bad for never laying brick before.
