  • Uneven Patio

I have a large existing patio that slopes away from the house. It is 30'x40' and it has been there for roughly 8 years. It has 4 inches of concrete with steel over a 6" base of compacted crushed limestone so it is good and solid. I will be installing a fully assembled Vesuvio 90 on a concrete block base with a 3.5" thick re-enforced concrete countertop. Along the side of the block base, the patio drops roughly 1.5 inches.

I think that if I just dry-stack block on the existing concrete and then level the counter top, it will be quite noticeable when looking at from the side. But if I use mortar and level the lower course and dry stack the rest, it would look better and probably be more stable. Has anyone had to deal with this? Does anyone know the pro's and con's of doing either, or is there a better solution that I am not thinking of? Thank you
