Re: Mobile Hand-Formed Dome Oven Build

This is very interesting. I have been considering casting a dome and this mould is quite the masterpiece, certainly looks like a winner! Great job.

It will be interesting to see how it comes out.
    Cheers ......... Steve

Pulled the form off and it looks great. Going to clean up the door - very rough edges.

Pics 1 & 2 are of insulation layer. I think I used 10:1:1 vermiculite:cement:water mix. Pics 3 & 4 are of the finish layer with the door trimmed out with firebrick. The finish layer was basically 3:2:1 concrete mix. I used refractory mortar for trimming out the door. I'm not 100% on the ratios. So if anyone would like specifics, I'll check my notes (which aren't here at the moment).

I've been using it for the last several weeks. I've had 900+ degrees at the dome and 800+ degrees on the floor. The outside is warm and you can easily leave your hand on it. Couldn't be happier with the way the dome works. I've got quite a bit to learn about fire management, though.

And another thing I've learned: do not bother with all purpose or bread flour. Go for the good stuff: "00" Caputo Pizzeria flour. Makes a world of difference.
