    Excellent article, dmun. Thanks for passing it along. Interesting that there are so many regional names for the same thing.

    If one were to construct a tandoor with leftover firebrick, I wonder what wall thickness would be optimum? Are there any plans out there that would disclose profile dimensions and the bottom vent configuration?

      His look really thin: I would think the thin dimension of firebrick would be close to the clay ones I've seen. He gives the dimensions, and shows the bare clay tandoor in his commercial site:

      It's interesting that superior clay is making them for him now. They're the ones who make the rumford throats, and decorative chimney pots.

        Yeah, these things look thin. Without the retained heat requirements of a WFO, it appears even a 2" thick 'brick' tandoor would perform nicely. Funny how the tandoor at this site looks like a distorted WFO with it's top missing.
