    Will this breather cap work?

Guys taking the advice on here and some kind suggestions of links fromAlomran I’ve bought the following Motorcycle Tank Gas Cap.

Having got it though I’m a bit unsure as to whether it’s fit for purpose. I’m not sure a pressure build up will force the mechanism open and it certainly doesn’t spring back to a closed position. I think it would need to be manually operated - ie open it when the oven is in use. Is that the intent?
Plus will it really be effective in letting steam escape? I tried running water through it with it in ‘open’ position but didn’t get anything coming through.

Really appreciate opinions - I’m about to render the dome.

I would stay away from that. I would just install a 1/2" threaded female plumbing fitting. Then there will be many options open to you.

Mullster can you not use a bit of copper pipe with holes in it? Have you a hole already made in your insulation or render that you can pop it into?

I haven’t left a hole - planning to make one. Haven’t rendered where it will sit yet. My reservation about copper pipe is I have no welding tools (or experience) so I’m not sure how I would make the ‘hat’ piece for the top.

Plus I’m kind of peeved to have bought this and not be able to make use of it.

It’s not the right sort of thing - just researched it more - the mechanism is purely to be able to remove the cap - it’s not a valve as such.

I need to figure out a non welding solution...

I've never seen a need to insert a pipe down in the hole. The hole just needs access to the blanket insulation layer. This is how I anchor a pvc bushing in stucco/render. This link to another thread has a little more of explaination

              Mullster,

I see now that you have been researching this on another thread and are having a problem filnding an actual breather cap. Until you find one a pvc plug can be threaded into the bushing that I show above when the oven is not in use. Also, a short "gooseneck" vent can be made real easy out of pvc fittings. You will need a 1/2" pvc threaded male adapter, two 1/2" pvc elbows, and two 1/2" pvc pipes cut to about 1" in length. Glue them together and a little latex paint will make the gooseneck vent a little more presentable

Gulf I appreciate all the advice - thank you. I’m going to see what I have to hand tomorrow. I’ve got a few ideas to work with now - thanks for that last link too.

Hello Mullster, I think you are way past the installation of the pipe, but just for giggles here is my 'low tech' approach. I stuffed a tiny brass screen into the downward facing ell for a bug stop.
I know everyone prefers the apex of the dome but that space is full of blanket so I don't think there is any convection happening that will allow hot air and moister to rise to the top.

Mongo that looks like a cool solution. I think I probably will pipe it now - I have the vermicrete layer to get through but as I say haven’t rendered over that yet so I think it’s still feasible. I obviously can’t create the ‘base’ for the pipe like you did because I’ve already done the vermicrete layer.

By the way - your dome and blanket and wire mesh look so professional!!
