  • Sand Between Two Domes?

I want to use a dome in a dome with 2" of sand between them for insulation, any suggestions

Welcome to the forum community Randy. Not sure why you would want to do this (and even more...not sure how you'd do this). Sand is a very poor insulation material and doesn't retain heat well either. We see it used by itself primarily to build a temporary casting form, support, or to level cooking floor bricks. Obviously it is an important component in the homebrew mortar (and casting) formula used by many forum members.

Tell us why you're contemplating this dome within a dome concept and members might be able to come up with some viable alternatives.

You would need at least 8 inches of coarse, dry sand to have the same insulation characteristics of 1 inch of furnace blanket. As such, it is a relatively poor insulator and it would be difficult (although of course possible) to construct.
