what material is the dome. thickness of the metal? I am thinking > inverted metal wok > topped with sand > wrapped in a dome metal jacket with a cap on top center, to pour out the sand from

Welcome to the forum community Randy. Not sure why you would want to do this (and even more...not sure how you'd do this). Sand is a very poor insulation material and doesn't retain heat well either. We see it used by itself primarily to build a temporary casting form, support, or to level cooking floor bricks. Obviously it is an important component in the homebrew mortar (and casting) formula used by many forum members.
Tell us why you're contemplating this dome within a dome concept and members might be able to come up with some viable alternatives.Last edited by SableSprings; 10-04-2021, 09:11 AM.
