  • Earth Oven Completed

I've posted some pictures in the photo gallery of the the earth oven recently completed.
It is earth per the Kiko Denzer earth oven book.
It's had a few small fires, but no cooking yet.
All in all it was a great experience, but I think brick work is faster than mixing so much cob.
I'll give updates when it finally bakes something and I compare to my Casa oven.

    Stellawood,

That is a neat looking oven,

I'll be curious to hear your reports about using the oven!

    Good work!

The oven has done quite well on it's first full day of pizza cooking.
      We really pushed it.
It produced over 60 small pies with pizza dough & topping donated by Arizmendi (SF)
It took a little bit longer than the Casa 90 to come to temp, and it seemed to max at lower temp but it really performed well for being made out of local bay area dirt.
I didn't stay to see how long it then retained the heat, but all in all it has been an amazing project. The insulating layer of cob really worked. The oven was never hot on the outside, just pleasantly warm.
A person that has worked in restaurants commented that he thought it did as well as the restaurant ovens he's used. Pretty successful day.
