Re: Thickness of Hearth
It's 1.6m x 1.6m with a triangle (0.95x0.95x1.35) cut out the corner, for the classic corner design.

Thickness of Hearth
Hi,
I've search for this but can't find anything, so just want to double check. Is 3.5" thick enough for the concrete hearth? It'll be reinforced with rebar and will have the fibre board on top + oven and housing. By my reckoning this could be:
300 bricks for housing * 2.5kg = 750kg
150 fire bricks for dome and floor (guess similar weight) = 275kg
? bricks for chimney (yet to be designed)
So guess would want strength for 1.5t to be sure. Any thoughts? Have enough concrete to make it upto 5" thick if required (presumably the extra weight of the concrete is better rather than stressful on the bricks below?).
