Re: dusty dome is 4" tall

    Dusty -
I have finshed my oven and will do a 'inventory" of what I have left over, but I may have about 25lbs or so of Heat Stop 50 dry mix I would be willing to give you if you would be interested. I hate to see it go to waste and don't know anyone else in the Sacramento area working on an oven. I am heading to San Francisco for a few days tomorrow, but send me a private message if you are interested.

Finished the seventh course today. Feels good to get back out there after a couple of weeks. Started today tying the sixth course to the arch - not too bad, and then set the seventh course. Plan to tye the seventh course in tomorrow, then finish number eight!
      19 1/4'' tall and counting.

      some pics I just took.

Dusty, you planning on a near full width vent opening? Looks tapered to your true opening from the sides. Also, nice job keeping bricks from lining up over each other.

Re: dusty dome is 4" tall

It was a bit to cold to start early, but I finished the eighth course this afternoon and the first four bricks of the ninth.
Starting to get cramped in there. Not enough room for me and my brick setting stuff. I think that I will soon be forced to finish from outside.

Here are some pics I took at quittin' time.

And one I just took of my oven house.

Boy, she's looking great! Really nice work Dusty.

Your back will really start to hurt once you start working hunched over from the outside.

You're going to be done in no time.

Have you got firewood already to go?

              I agree.

              Very nice work Dusty.

And the back will definitely start to feel the pain now~!

              Keep it up.

              looking awesome!

Dusty, I am so happy knowing you got back to the dome. Remember that once you are done, to wait a week befor ANY cures. You can use that time wisely to work on the island framing. You can't leave that awesome charcoal grill in a box forever? Oh ya, and the monster salmon going by you right now?

Thanks George. Trying to keep a steady pace, seems like a marathon.

Yea, but I have to get out of there soon. Spilled my beer in there yesterday! Some things I just can't tolerate.

Have you got firewood already to go?
Funny you should ask. I have a bunch of apricot and peach limbs already, and my neighbors are having their huge cherry tree taken down tommorow and promised to save the wood for my oven.
Good karma or just lucky- either way, I'm psyched!

I agree. I just hope I have that kind of patience. My wood will still be green - that should help slow me down.

Probably a few. I sure haven't slowed any of them down! I need to take a brick break and get after them. Planning on Wed. night.

Post a pic if you make a catch.

Sounds like you got your hands on some great wood. Get it split up and stacked ASAP. I let mine sit unsplit for a year and it's still not ready to go.

                      Tight lines!

Dusty, you have been too quiet. What have you accomplished lately? Did you end up fishing Wednesday night?

Yea, I have been busy. Holiday busy, busy at work, but busy on my oven too. Finished course 10 today. That puts me past the arch. Going to be alot smoother now. Plan on getting close to the top tommorow.
Haven't measured lately, but I'm getting up there!

Yes, I did go out Wed. night. Never saw a fish. Nothin'. Not even any other fisherman. Bad sign. That may be it for me this season.

Ended up being a productive day, even though I wasn't able to start until after 1 o'clock. I am 1/3 through with course 12. Using new method. I cut, fit, then set three or four bricks at a time.
I have moved my saw AND Mr. Heater into the oven house. Very cozy in there now.
Everything going smooth. Didn't get ant pictures, but my son kyle did.

23 1/2" Tall and I am now only slightly smaller than the hole in the top!
