    How much vermiculite to place under the dome. From memory the plans call for 4",is this enough?

    4" is sufficient, but as we say here....insulate, insulate, insulate. If you can add more without drastically altering your plans, go for it.
    That said, I used 4" (per the plans) and have been totally happy with heatup and heat retention.

      I'm with RT,

      I followed the plans with the 4" and am happy with the results.

      We will cook in the oven the following day for sure after a pizza event, and often even the second day with a long slow cook pot of beans or something similar. The oven holds heat just fine with the 4".
