well it looked good while it lasted, I guess you shouldn't use cheap tools when
you need to count on them. we had to stop laying bricks to run to home depot for a quick fix, which wasn't quick after all.

      Re: unique oven enclosure

after the clamp issue, progress slowed down a little due to the fact that the
weather has been to nice to forget about our other obsession, motocross.
I had to spend some time on the tractor.
we did manage to mock up our opening and stack.
      material will be 1/4" plate.

the brick work is finally complete, we gave up on the clamp and built up some plywood forms to make the last courses go quicker. we also whipped up a
compound chop saw to cut the bricks. we should be eating pizza for Christmas dinner.

              Wow!
Great looking set up. I love the base. I am a firm believer in the "use-what-you-got" theory. If you aren't going to use your half a giant steel ball for your dome oven project, when the hell ARE you going to use it! And to fill it with insulation is genious. I bet that will be the best insulated floor in FB history.

                    Re: unique oven enclosure

After letting the oven cure for a week with 2 halogen work lights on, we
lit our first fire. It was only going to be a small one at first, but ended up
being the mother of all fires. since we weren't planning on cooking,
some one ran down to papa Murphy's so we could se how it cooked.

Looking good! You might think about an extension to that flue: code wants it two feet above any structure within ten feet.

here are some pics from the weekend, we fit the top of the ball
over the door and chimney before putting on the insulation.
the last pic is for the building code police
we had a big day Saturday, cooking about 30 pizzas
started the fire at 10:00 am and cooked until 8:00 at night.
cant wait to do it again next weekend

Very impressed with your metal skills and cool creative oven. Where did the giant steel ball come from? Did you make it?

the ball is an old navy buoy that was converted to a well tank.
we found it sitting behind someones house next to the levee in Rio Linda
