  • Spares shortage foiled

    Hi all,

When my sister visited some 15 years ago from Switzerland, she regaled me with an expensive 9V Makita drill. I've had troubles in the past year or two getting it to switch on, eventually having to let the battery pack hang out a bit before it made contact with the switch contacts.

Today I despaired and took the thing apart, measured all current paths and found the springy flat switch contacts to the battery have corroded so much that contact is sporadic to non-existent.

Makita says there are NO spares for this drill...

So as a tip to anyone in a similar situation, my 'solution' was to pinch a bit of alu foil from my wife's kitchen drawer - and just wrapped a strip around each of the corroded flat spring grips!

Put the battery pack back in and presto! Drill works again.

    Ciao,

    LMH
