Interesting, where did the term "cracking a joke" come from.....

            Re: Adding Hearth Insulation

Crack or craic is "fun, enjoyment, abandonment, or lighthearted mischief; often in the context of drinking or music".

and with that thought we should all be proud of our cracks, particularly in the context of wood fired ovens, drinking and music!

talk about fun and lighthearted mischief,
            what a group!!

Cabin fever huh Jim? (George cracks a smile)

Endless entertainment. Mindless, but entertaining nonetheless.

Oh, BTW, hate to get off the crack topic.... I did check under my oven the next day and the hearth was right around 100 degrees by then. I guess that is where the heat goes as the oven cools, huh? Otherwise, it would stay hot forever.

Oooh, we're back on that again are we?

Pity, I was just going to say how I'd be up the crack without a paddle if I didn't have this forum to help me.

OK, back to heat loss: I've got one patch on my oven about the size of one hand that gets far hotter than anywhere else. Still working up the courage to break through the mortar and wire mesh to see whats under there (or rather what isn't).

But you're right, the heat has to go somewhere (unfortunately).

Darn, I wanted to throw in my favorite friendly greeting "what's crackin'?" Never did know where exactly that came from 'til now.

You folks remind me of an old peanut/popcorn treat commercial.

"You call that gal/guy a Crackerjack." You folks are Crackerjack oven builders, chefs, decorators, etc. I'm lucky to know each of you.

                          Speaking of cracks...

Who let you guys on this forum anyways... you seemed to have slipped through the cracks. ... How did that happen?

Broke my mom's back the other day.... long story... just a missed foot placement really... poor mom.. She's doing Ok.

Well .. I ran out of thoughts.
So like a ball leaving the stadium after the crack of a bat...
