I want to know what those red bell pepper hand grenade things are on the shelf?

I have a feeling they are some sort of Chinesey decoration, there is a big Chinese population not far from the shop in Bendigo.
There were 1000's of Chinese on the goldfields in the 1800's.

If it is an oven, the builder must have liked laying on his belly.

The floor has been built up about 4 feet over time to make it the same level as an old loading bay that also forms part of the shop.

Or............
Maybe he was a short (bread) baker......

I wonder what awaits behind this bricked up arch?
I assume its an oven, it is in an old gold mining town that now has all manner of antique and junk shops.
