    I also built a 42" dome. I changed from 1/2 bricks to 1/3rd bricks around the 6th or 7th course. The dome will let you know when you need to change. As you go higher you'll get to the point where a half-brick seems like it is just too large to properly sit on the course below....

    I just saw from looking at your build thread you used something like 1/4 inch of dry leveling compound? No wonder it is leaking out the sides- like sands through an hourglass. That just seems to me like a crazy amount of clay/sand. My board and hearth were relatively flat so I didn't need any compound...

    Thanks. That helps. I've run into another issue that I'm wondering if it is an insurmountable problem.

    Here's what I have in the following order from top down

    Oven Floor Brick in a Herringbone Pattern
    Layer of Half Fire Clay/Half Sand for Leveling
    Ceramic FiberBoard...
