Hi all. We're about halfway through a build in San Diego. Have our base built and hearth slab poured. We were originally going to use a 2" cal sil board but are having trouble finding one locally, and are in a major time crunch. Now we are thinking of pouring 3 - 3 1/2 inches do perlite/Portland mix and putting half fire bricks on top to reduce the height. Can anyone give insight on the pros and cons of the board vs the perlite mix. Also any insight in to if 3 1/2 inches of perlite mix with half fire bricks on top is sufficient to stop heat bleed? Thanks!
