  • Building on a budget in Ireland

    Hi,
I'm Fran and I'm trying to build an oven using a 40 gallon drum and some old storage heater bricks.
So far I have line the inside of the back wall of my drum and am almost finished building the plinth it will sit on using block and mortar. Next plan is to set it on top and lay the base of the oven inside the drum and cut the bricks to build my arch.
The mix I'm using is cement plasterers sand and hydrated lime which I got from a thread on this site. fingers crossed it will hold
I'm planning on using some 5" flue pipe leftover from a stove installation for the chimney. not sure whether to fit this to the back or the front of the oven.
The whole thing will be covered in, first, high tech foil insulation, then attic insulation and then covered in cement.
Hoping that the bricks can withstand the heat but post on this forum seem to say they should
    Any suggestions welcome
Loving this forum, a great source of knowledge for a newbie like me!!
