Hello everyone.
I am completely knew to this whole idea of brick ovens. I am actually not building a brick pizza oven but rather a brick BBQ. Which, I believe there will be some principles that are the same for both of them. So my fire box is going to be comprised of low duty firebrick. I was going to go with medium duty but after reading a post here, it turns out for our applications, it doesn't matter. Plus, if it gets close to 2000 ℉, I think we have bigger issues.
Now, I have a question, what is an effective method for insulating my firebrick from the outside red brick? I read that soft firebricks are good at insulating but after looking online, i found a place selling them for $2.00 a brick. I am wondering if there are any better solutions. A friend of mine said that I can insulate it with sand. Which sounds like a much cheaper solution. But I am unsure if this is acceptable.
What do you guys think?
