Do a forum search for "homebrew", or use a search engine to look for "homebrew fornobravo site:fornobravo.com". Many builders mix their own using the standard ratios 3.1.1.1, Sand, Fireclay, Portland cement and Hydrated lime. It's what I used and was relatively cheap, easy to work with, and is holding up well.

Hi, I'm looking to start working on the firebrick next week. Shipping FB mortar is expensive and takes a lot of time and there aren't really local refractory mortar suppliers. What's the best way to mix my own? Forno Bravo recommends either fireclay and Portland cement or fireclay and Calcium Aluminate, which is better?
