  • Humongous Wasp..

I was out in the bush yesterday collecting rusty old sheets of corrugated iron that has been dumped for a new project I want to do.

I jumped down an old shallow mine shaft to retreive a sheet and this humongous wasp flew out all angry.....

Shit....dont move.....this thing was 30mm long and really really annoyed, it was making scrapping buzzing noises.
It landed on a nearby tree to see who had taken its shelter......dont move Al.....dont move.........

I did some research today and it turns out to be a Potter Wasp.

Ive seen all manner of things in the bush and never once been concerned, this thing scared me.......

Those little thieves are quite common up here in the tropics. I mistakenly called them hornets. They love to steal clay from a pottery and most potters have clay nests around the place. I've never been stung, or heard of anyone being stung, unlike the smaller paper wasps which you are likely to get hit by about four at once, very painful too.

          hyjacking your thread Al

We found this in our backyard yesterday...I saw a puma in the driveway three years ago, this shows he is in the area regularly. They eat one deer every twelve days and we have too many, so he's welcome here.

He just flew out of its beak when he went for a better grip.
