  • Are there any dangers with Pizza Ovens?

    Hi,

I have just built a pizza oven at my home.

I have been using it for a few days now, and have noticed cracks in the outer concrete sand casing.

Is there any dangers of the oven exploding or anything if the heat inside gets too hot?

The oven is built on a steel table with a first layer of concrete, 2 inches thick, followed by another 2 inches of virmiculite, then a layer of red fire bricks, with a top layer of fire tiles.

The oven was then constructed with fire bricks in an igloo form.

Then I covered the whole oven with a 3 inch layer of virmiculite and concrete mix.

The I cover the whole oven with 2 inch layer of concrete and sand mix.

Can any experts comment on the safety of this oven. I would hate it to blow outwards with people around it.

    Thanks in advance.

    Shane

Check out the section On curing your oven its just still not dry and cured
...every ltr (pint)of water you have put into your insulation is trying to turn into 70 Ltr ( pints) of steam . It will not explode .... Just crack... So go slow.. No more pizza heat just yet

Even worse. Every litre of water has the potential to create 1000 litres of steam.

Correction, that should be approx. 1600 litres at ambient temp and normal pressure.
