  • Stupidest WFO-related accident

I'd like to nominate myself for the stupidest and most unnecessary "accident" while building an WFO:

The other day I wanted to weigh down a large fold of tarp with a 4 kg firebrick, so I slammed the freezing brick down with quite some force and energy... unfortunately fogetting to remove my equally frozen finger from underneath it first.

Not as spectacular as Dave's efforts I know, but you'd be surprised how difficult it is to get anything done with only nine fingers....

    Nicely done!!

Maybe we should also vote once a month for a "Dave's Hall of Fame" candidate.

    You'd have my vote!

I'm glad I did not take pictures of all the scratches, scrapes, near-misses, misses and catastophes' during my oven construction.

One that comes to mind in the stupid dept. I ducked under a newly laid full lenght concrete lintel in the base turned around to come out and got up too fast!!! Dumped the Lintel and really scraped and bruised my back -

Yeah, great idea! The "Dave award" - just like the Darwin Award, only different

Your accident sounds good, too. I can just picture it happening...

        Frances,

Here's my submission: sitting in the car, waiting for significant other to buy "a few things" in the supermarket, idly inspecting my hands for bullet holes. Eureka, there's a kind of puffy spot on the tip of the second finger of my left hand, with a dark spot in the middle. Begin messing about with said dark spot. Out pops a splinter half an inch long. Don't know where I got it or when, but it had been in there quite a while. Gave the hole a good squeeze to get out the bad stuff. Didn't feel a thing.

Well... just goes to show ya. The American Economy, with inflation and the oil crisis notwithstanding, ain't what it used to be.
In my day, at sea level, a 4 Kg. (or 8.8184904873951 Lb. American) brick dropped or slammed at one atmosphere @ 32F would have knocked the very fingerprints off of my mitts.
I wouldn't even heat up a needle for that.

Jim Ive been demolishing the upstairs of what we hopefully become our WFO bakery or pizzeria, mostly comprised of cedar bead board. Splinters galore...last night did the same as you...sitting idly looking at all the "wounds"...black spot right in the fold on the inside of a finger...squeeze and pop...like a blow gun dart...
