"Wood fired oven" at Sam's Club. Am I making this up, or is that a vent going right out the top of the dome?

Yes, it actually is. I have looked at one a couple or three times at my local Sam's this year. It is probably the same one that I have looked at since the spring. The vent on top closes like a Weber grill. I would think that is to just keep the rain out. I don't think that it has enough thermal mass or insulation for retained heat cooking.
