    Re: Where it the Dustman?

I noticed his absence as well. Probably depressed because the Sacramento River's salmon season will be closed, for all intents an purposes. Miss ya Dusty!

      Yep. What's he up to?

At least Jeff always tells us why he's not on the forum...

Hang on, Dusty's last post is only seven days old - he's probably just on holiday and forgot to tell us.

He is crazy busy with work and backyard projects. He will be at my party. Hey, maybe I should try being absent for a while?

            Re: Where it the Dustman?

Thanks all, I missed you too. No holiday, I'm afraid, just been working more and sitting at the computer less. And as Acoma said, I have resumed construction on my outdoor kitchen. I did the electrical last week, started on the countertops on Sunday, and plumbed it yesterday.

George, CFG still hasn't finalized a plan on how to save our fishery. I am more afraid that they will restrict or prohibit commercial fishing. Those guys have families to support. I am just havin' fun - and not that much the last couple of years.

And you still got that PBR coming Dave. Keeping it cold for you. Get out here soon... they don't keep forever!

I took some pics today. I decided to make the counter tops of old pool table slates as I have lots of them.

Please excuse the mess. I need to get into the habit of cleaning up after each day like they taught us in shop class. Anyone old enough to remember shop class?

Wow! Two posts by Dusty! Too cool!

Tell me, what's the arch on the backside of the kichen for? A pass-through for firewood? It all looks really nice.

I can't tell you how much I hate to hear the news of the Sac's King Salmon crash. It pretty much kills the season up and down the coast. We were supposed to make a trip to Neah Bay in June for Salmon, but the season is in jeapordy here as well. Puget Sound's runs have been teetering for years. The Springer season on the Columbia here was just 10 days long because the Willamette in OR's runs were forcast to be really low as well. Global cooling in the NW is killing everything! What a crappy Spring!

Back East is talking about short crab collections. The sea is not always full of life, huh?

Three reasons really.Third, I thought it might be handy to be able to access the storage from the rear. Second, I thought that I should have something structural on the back to break up the monontany of the solid brick wall - looks, I guess. First, when I drew the plans, I realized that if I made a back opening, I wouldn't have to cut any cinder blocks. I could just set them there and fill every other cavity. That seemed important at the time.

So happens that there was a big salmon story on the 5 o'clock news tonight. Still no final CFG plan, but suggested that the situation was dire and that no one can figure out exectly what has happened to the fishery.

I don't believe it is a mystery at all. And I don't think the biologists do either. There is so much water being diverted to So. Cal through aqua ducts and canals that even the river doesn't know which way to go. Add that to all the water that is diverted for agriculture and I find it amazing that ANY water, AT ALL, is able to flow back to the ocean for the salmon to run.

And no two biologists that I have ever talked to can agree on why and how the salmon return to the exact place of their origin. Makes sense to me that we have obviously upset some balance.

Recently too. Five years ago I was catching limits and releasing them. Wore out my smoker and had to replace it in '03.

OK....time to get off the soap box.
