  • High heat mortar - Edible? What happens when in contact with food?

Hi, I am building an oven at my house and planning to use the high heat mortar recipe from Forno Bravo. My concern is, once it heats up, does it have emissions that go into the food?
Is it "edible"? Is there a specific mortar recipe to be used in food applications?

    Hi Garaisg,

Welcome to the forum. You question is above my paygrade, but here are my thoughts. If there are any measurable emissions from the "home brew" mortar, they probably go out the chimney/flu with the smoke. Since the floor brick are not usually mortared in place there will be no direct contact with the food.

I'd probably agree with that logic.
