Thread Seems To Be In Reverse Chronology
(M) Hi, James,
Am I the only one receiving just this thread in reverse chronology? All the other threads seem to follow my "User CP" but everytime I click on this one, I need to click on "Last" to get the most recent post.
Ciao,

Re: My Oven/BBQ
Well we are in a deep freeze here in California and I am waiting for it to
worm up just a bit so I can start the insulation layer.
In the mean time.
I have started a sourdough starter, and made bread, in the inside oven,
and pancakes one morning, (OMG they were great).
anyone tried sourdough pizza? Sounds good.

Re: My Oven/BBQ
And now its time for bread.
After pizza, and the oven cooled down, I made the first 3 loafs of bread and about 10 pretzels, in my new oven. The bread came out a l i t t l e dark, as the oven was hotter than I thought, but that?s part of the new-to-me art of cooking in a brick oven. I am making a door that will make it easier to get in and out, turn the beard, and control heat loss. The other night I just stacked bricks in the door way, it worked, but was not very easy. A door will be better.

Re: My Oven/BBQ
Now that?s what I am looking for.
Great draw, very little smoke out the door, not enough to bother me.
Once I got the oven up to temp for the smoke test, I thought why waste the heat?
Pie was great, I love it, I love it, I love it,!

Looks great. I will also check back to see how the fire goes for you. Great job.

Re: My Oven/BBQ
Hey Marcel and James, Thanks,
I will build a fire on Monday and check on the smoke
Hopefully this way will be good, but well see.
I will take a few photos so you can see how it goes.

Re: My Oven/BBQ
I think Marcel has it right. You will see a little smoke out the front when the fire is heating up, but once the vent get warm it will draw well, and you won't see any smoke at all. That also goes for vents that angle back before running up and out. My indoor oven and our oven with the hipped roof both angle back -- the indoor one in order to place the vent in a good spot in the roof, and the one with the copper roof just for design reasons.
To take it to an extreme, I have been both restaurant and home ovens that have a right angle straight out of the vent. I wouldn't do it personally, but it goes to show how much wiggle room you have.

Re: My Oven/BBQ
(M) Leepin,
(M) Consider waiting to "mud" it until you have run a significant fire to check for smoke out the front. The weather is not right for baking yet anyhow so there's no rush. If you find you get too much smoke, you can still change the angle without having to chip concrete again.
(M) Remember that a very hot fire will draw a lot better than a mediocre one. I also get some frontal smoke until that sucker gets really roaring; then I get almost no smoke even up the flue!
Good Luck, and
Ciao,
Marcel

Re: My Oven/BBQ
I'm going with the dome route as well - all the enclosures I have seen are just too massive (for the area I'm putting it in). Let us know how your vent draws.
Thanks,
Les...

Re: My Oven/BBQ
Hello Les,
It's just the look I was after.
The Oven's outside will be a dome, no house around it
and I did not like the way it looks with the chimney going up in front.
I saw some photos wene I first started looking in to this Oven thing.
And I liked the ones that the vent came up from the middle of the dome.
But it is rainning here today so I will wait till tomarrow. to mud it in.
thanks
Leepin

Re: My Oven/BBQ
Leepin,
Without sorting through all the posts - why did you want the vent to angle back to the middle of the oven? Just curious.

Re: My Oven/BBQ
Ok, the crack was from the cold weather and a fire to soon. (I could not help myself)
So out come the hammer, Chip off bad cement, and put in a bigger flu. (6?)
Thanks
Leepin
Here are some new photos before the mud it in.5 Photos

Re: My Oven/BBQ
The crack is superficial; it runs on the outside of the vent
I have no insulation on the outside of my oven yet.
So it will be easy enough to fix, plus my chimney pipe seems too small,
(Too much smoke out the door) so I think I am going to go with 6? pipe all the way up
it is now 6?X10?X6?to a 4?pipe X 5?
Will a 6? pipe work?
Thanks
