Welcome, i build whole fireplaces with fireclay that can sit unused for months the key to any fireplace\fire box or oven is bringing temperature up in increments. My oven now goes to 1000\1200 Deg on a regular basis. When you finish all masonry work small long fires first!!It will get used to expanding and contracting, hope this helps.

Hello. I've just started my 32 " in Nanaimo and have a question about the
super 3000 mortar you used. I just found the product at Slegg Lumber in Lantz ville and was curious if I take a week or three to build the dome is that too long before I cure the mortar at 250 degrees as they say you have to in the instructions? I says to wait at least 4 hours before curing it but as its done in stages I can't exactly cure it at each stage. .

    anyway info would be helpful
    thx
    Steve

Hey Karen -- great looking oven! We live in Victoria, can you please tell me where you sourced your medium grade fire brick? We have found a lot of light duty (aka soft and inferior) but would like to find some medium ones as my husband likes them a lot better. I see you live in Nanoose, if you can provide your source we'd be more than will to venture over the Malahat to get them! Thanks for your help! Kathy

Haha! Go big or go home! (I didn't want it to look too weeny-skinny next to the concrete arch, caps etc.)
