  • Very Early Wood fired oven

I just found this figurine in the Vienna art history museum.

It dates from around 500 BC. It was titled "Bread Baker"

It looks like they are firing the oven from below the cooking area.

It looks very beautiful but how do they use where to fire and where to cook...

Well since the figurine is over 2500 years old I'm not sure we'll find anyone to answer that question. My impression is the area under the oven is just for wood storage and the fire is first burned in the oven like we do. (I'm just guessing) The front support looks like a large stone, and I would think the floor would also be a stone.
