Believe me, it doesn't show... you're kidding, right?

I would say, did you mean "trying", but from my own experience I think you nailed it .

Thanks for all the kind words. The plan is to go with stone. We poured the top today. I will give it a couple of days and then pull the forms. This has been a really slow go. I have never done any masonry work before. I am just tiring to do it right.

I hope you are kidding - this is going to be awesome to watch. It's a great setting and a fantastic start.

Mannnextdoor - it looks like the inside miters have a radius to them. how do you plan on finishing the island - brick, rock, stucco?

    I caught that too Matt.
I don't think I'm going to follow this build anymore. Not only am I getting totally jealous here but I have a feeling I'm going to start feeling inadequate with my skills too.

Yeah, you know a build is going to be special when someone does mitring like that on the forms!

That's going to be a fantastic outdoor kitchen. I would wait 2 or 3 hours for the countertop to firm up before pouring the vermic. Since the vermiculite will be saturated with water and portland, I don't think you will have a problem with the vermic leaching water from the concrete.

I'm pretty sure you can pour both in the same day (most people on the forum have done this IIRC), just make sure that the vermiculite isn't going to leech any water from the concrete.

Forms are set and I hope to pour the counter top this week. I can't wait to start the oven. Should I wait a period of time after the counter has been poured, before I pour the vermiculite base and start the oven?

Looks amazing - that's quite some work going on there, but you can't beat the location!

All the cores have been filled. The slab for the grill / fish fryer has been poured. I will start to frame up for the counter top pour next.

I finished laying the fourth course yesterday. I have some cores that need to be filled yet. I can then start framing it up so I can pour the top.
