    Re: Larry?s Inferno

Thanks Larry and dmun for the replies. I'm going to look around some more this weekend, If the rain holds off. I actually found a used 10" wet saw for $250 (includes blade and stand). I'm going to try to see it tomorrow. I really need an extra hour in a day.
    Cheers!

        Re: Larry?s Inferno

        Hi Tony,
Not much going on as far as the oven. I've been extremely lucky to be very busy at work and as the old saying goes I'm making hay while the sun shines. Speaking of sunshine all the rain that we have been having does put A damper on bricklaying. Hopefully this weekend we will have some dry weather and I'll be able to get the solider course in place. The onset of the hurricane season does have me a little nervous and is lighting a fire under my butt as I want to get the oven in a mechanically stable state in case we get any big winds. I see from your pictures that you are getting close to pouring your slab. Nice to have a pool close enough to fall into after working up a sweat in 90 Deg heat. Don't over do it and good luck.

        Larry

          Re: Larry?s Inferno

I was able to get a little done late Sunday afternoon. It's nice to be able to start the walls of the dome. I plan on buttressing the soldier course with a few inches of the Perlite concrete mix.

            Larry,

I like that saw jig and brick placement tool! Keep the photos coming, it's helping me.
            Cheers!

That's the beauty of this group. These are two very good ideas that I borrowed from other builders and adapted to what I had available. Anytime you can build a jig to help with the cuts it assures speed, and consistency in your overall dimensions. Sometimes you just have to eyeball something though. Thankfully, in the end, it really shouldn't effect the Pizza. Has anybody noticed recently pizza places seem to be running their ovens at lower temperatures? Often around 450 deg. I was wondering if they are just trying to cut the electric bill.

Nice use of the "speed square" bolted to your saw table, the guide that came with my saw was kind of limited.

                thanks for the pictures

                  Larry,

What angle did you use on the soldier course??

                    Re: Larry?s Inferno

After drawing out the curves several times I settled on 24 Deg.

                        Re: Larry?s Inferno

Some pictures from last week. I was able to lay some bricks between rain storms. I'm finding that the template is very easy to use on the lower levels. I used cut up pieces of two neoprene mouse pads as shims with the template for alignment and to initially hold the brick in place.

I'm really liking the Old Chicago brick! Be sure to post a lot of pictures.

                          Good luck,

                            Re: Larry?s Inferno

I was finally able to get out and do some work this Sunday. I completed the first course across the front arch and boy that was a relief. No more strange shaped bricks. Now that I have a continuous layer, of bricks, things should speed up a little. Also the rings of bricks are getting smaller. I?m now shooting for an operational oven by thanksgiving. My wife says she won't go near the oven until it's 100% completed. She claims that I have a tendency to not completely finished jobs.

                              Hey Larry!

Looking great. That's a really nice arch. Mine's not as symmetrical. I could use the excuse of the heat, but I milked that one too much. Keep the photos coming.
                              Cheers!

The dome came out a little egg shaped but I changed some things on my form and I should be able to correct it in the next 2 layers. Tony I left you a message in your profile.
