I am testing how photograph attachments work. Here is an FB fireplace kit, attached to this message. Let's see how easy it is to view.

'Seems okay to me. But it would be nice if we could get a larger photo when we click on the photo. This is especially helpful when taking a look at the good work everyone is contributing.

Again, thanks for the forum and let's get it moving!

test with a larger picture. picture file size limit appears to be 39.1 KB. i processed the attached file with a compression factor of 35 so it lost some quality. is there anyway to set the maximum file size to about 100KB? that would allow a 400X375 JPG with excellent quality.

        Nice pizza

Good looking pizza Robert. I will check on both the 100K size and the thumbnail/larger photo. You can do both, I just need to learn the software.

          Re: Posting photos

I got a note asking me to try and post larger pictures. I was just using the edit size option to web blog. Now I've tried using the reduce size before resizing to web blog. I put up some oven photos today and it seems better with the larger sizes without losing too much detail.

Any other suggestions or software might help.

I saw these chimneys and went to investigate....one brick oven and one huge bbq....reduced sizes to 40, 35, and 30% on these three before resizing.

            Re: Posting photos

            Hi all,
I use macs rather than windows platform machines and as such not sure as to how my attached pictures appear. Most of the attached pics from all other forum members are relatively small and hard to see some of the finer detail. I posted a reply to Rob who was experiencing problems with file size of his pictureswhich explains how to overcome the problem.

If you have access to Adobe Photoshop, open one of your pictures at a time in the programme, go to the main menu >Image>Image size and reduce it as I do to 45cm wide.
This will obviously depend on the pixel number capability of your camera or original file size, but a couple of quick tests will soon establish the dimension required. A picture reduced to 50cm wide at 72ppi (pixels per inch is the standard TV and monitor resolution, will display at 50cm wide)!

Check OK and the pic will reduce in size.
Now from the main menu, select File>Save for Web. This will display a single picture with the format (type,-jpeg, giff etc). You can select to have either 2 or 4 to view simultaneously, just choose the option within the window. Each view will show the dimensions of the picture and choose the one that best suits the FB requirements.
Select the one most suitable and Save.
Here I add the word web to the title which does not change or over write your original camera file.
Close your Photoshop file but do not save as this also will over write your original camera file. Always try to keep it original, you never know when you might need it as large as it is.
This should give you great almost full screen pics for all of us to see your results.
Photoshop is the industry standard and but many programmes use a compact or selected functions of photoshop to edit and alter bitmap digital images. Check them out and see if you can 'Save for the Web'. It will give you a much larger, better detailed picture often with a smaller file size. The pics (from left) are:
Fire with oven lights web - 68.8Kb
            largest fire - 67Kb
Pizza oven web - 48Kb and
            Pizzas oven web - 57.1Kb
Hope this helps those trying to show their efforts.

              Re: Posting photos

I'm having trouble posting the url of a picture so that is in the body of the post (as opposed to an attached thumbprint you have to click on.)

Here is what I do an it's not working: I use picasa and upload my pics to the picasa 'web album' so each pic is reduced in sized and has an url (http;//picasweb....and a whole bunch of numbers/symbols.)

I click on the 'postcard' icon above and past my http:.... pic there. Now I've been told that you can't preview it but go ahead and post the message, and it should appear. I'm still not getting them to appear.

Am I still doing something wrong or is there something wrong with the way picasweb urls, links or embeds somehow that no longer works?

              Thanks, Dino

                Re: Posting photos

Picasa or other photo hosting sites have several format options. There is a forum formatted link that includes the tags for this site, and that you just paste in the body of the message where you want the message. The postcard icon above the message box is for just the plain URL, which starts with "http://" and ends with ".jpg"

                  Re: Posting photos

I resize an image on MicrosoftOffice Picture Manager. Once you;ve opened your pic click on "redefine Width & Height in the right hand margin, and chose "Web large 640x480" and save.

Open up Image shack using the link below.

                  ImageShack? - Online Media Hosting

Browse for the image you want to show, then click "upload now" only one image at a time though.

Wait a few seconds and you will have confirmation that the image has been sucessfully loaded.

3/4 down the page, right click on "Forum code" link and copy the URL shown. Now on FB, just paste the link with your text.

Sounds a bit long winded, but when you get the hang of it, its fine.

                  Regards

                    Re: Posting photos

ok, here is test 1 there SHOULD be a pic below here: ("link")

If not, here is test 2 (an "embedded image" whatever that means)
                    <table style="width:auto;"><tr><td><a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/nR8EQfToeFrqmZr1x_Vh7Q?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_BkRM6RxeTiU/TBZnh6ABPHI/AAAAAAAAKjg/bUEraihClfw/s144/DSC_9161.JPG" /></a></td></tr><tr><td style="font-family:arial,sans-serif; font-size:11px; text-align:right">From <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/Dino747/Temp?feat=embedwebsite">Temp</a></td></tr></table>

And test 3, the actual http url at the top of the web page:
Picasa Web Albums - Dino - Temp

If there is not at least 1 image, I'll ask for some more specific help-thanks!

What is "a forum formatted link that includes the tags" mean?

Are you saying anything I paste has to end in .jpg?

Jon, thanks, I'll check out ImageShack, I just wanted to be able to look at my picasweb album and I assume I can paste 1 of the 3 ways they give to upload an in-line image.

I think it may be a picasaweb thing and need to use another program that just adds another layer. Thanks, Dino

                            Re: Posting photos

An easier way: Open the image in Picasa, right click on image to choose "copy image location", come back to FB forum to push the postcard icon and paste the URL there. Use a separate tab or window to look at other sites, or your text in the text box will be gone when you hit your browser "back" button.
