I'm building a 38-in interior diameter oven, and was wondering about the shape of the vent landing. FB shows a slight flare...is this just because the vent l;anding bricks line up this way with the walls?

The shape of your vent landing, or entryway, is whatever you want it to be. Generally, the FB plans recommend oven configurations and design features more easily accomplished by the first-time builder.
A flared entryway requires more engineering, cutting, and time to construct, but provides advantages in working the oven and getting your door in and out.
