Re: Welcome to the new Forno Bravo Forum

This is quite a forum, So glad I found you all.

Been wanting to build an oven in our little backyard for some time. A hopeless DIY'er , I'm going for it finally. An incredible Pizza @ Delfina here certainly heaved me over the tipping point. Hope to gain and give much as time goes by.

    Thanks!

    Matt

      Hello all
I am very new at this and am planning to build hopefully a pompeii oven mobile unit. I am sure i will run into so many different problems but im gonna take it one step at a time and hopefully will learn much from the people here.

Re: Welcome to the new Forno Bravo Forum

Been chipping out chirt and yanking out a plum tree trunk in the B/Y to prep for what most likely will be a Pompeii 90. The kit looks interesting. Will call Windsor CA to see if there is a showroom there. That's 90 mi away and will be worth the trip to see. Step by step, that's me too.

Re: Welcome to the new Forno Bravo Forum

Been reading forums here til my eyes are crossed lookin out the back of my head LOL but im learning soo much here. i am thinkin the geodesic design is going to be my best bet for strength and to hold up to road wear. (dang i shoulda payed attn better in math class, all those pentagrams and triangles) Slowly im working the math out but feel free to throw in any ideas lol or shortcuts.

Road wear? Any brick oven will not hold up to road vibration, let alone the thinnest and most fragile brick configuration, the geodesic.

As the resident geodesic oven maven, I really don't recommend this.

Most successful mobile ovens use a modular oven.

Re: Welcome to the new Forno Bravo Forum

maybe for a portable oven you should consider a steel ball oven ?

Re: Welcome to the new Forno Bravo Forum

good points........... im thinkin my best bet will be to bite the bullet and get one that forno bravo offers already mounted and let them worry about strength and durability.

Re: Welcome to the new Forno Bravo Forum

A mobile oven sounds like a seismic challenge. A good bump at 40 mph could be like a 7.8 quake (which makes me wonder about a brick oven in my CA backyard). A reinforced cast shell securely anchored to a very stable base probably required. Good suspension on the trailer too. Expansion and contraction differences between masonry and steel could pose a problem over time. The modular suggestion is a good one. Good Luck!

about this steel dome idea? anybody have any feedback on what kind of steel? i have access to a cast iron kettle for making syrup and the dimensions inside it are dang near exact as to what oven would be. how will cast iron hold up under the high range of heat?
thanks all for your input it has saved me alotta headaches lol as well as trial and error from the school of hard knocks..

Re: Welcome to the new Forno Bravo Forum

                            Hello everyone,

My name is Damian and I'm from Belfast - way up in the north of Ireland. I've been reading around the forum for a long time (2 years nearly) and finally have got the courage to make my first posting.

I feel a bit of a cheat, and for that I apologise, because I've managed to get a lot of valuable information from reading the threads and used this to build my 42" Tuscan Style Pompeii WFO.

When we moved house some years ago I found an old chimney pot which I thought would look good on top of an oven! My dad worked all his life on the nighshift at a local bakery so I guess making/using an oven is in the genes. Researching the net brought me to Forno Bravo and I downloaded the Pompeii Oven Plans. Over the course of 2 years I've worked on and off at the oven - a labour of love you might say.

Anyway, just thought it was time to introduce myself and bit the bullet.

                            Many thanks
                            Damian
