  • G'day

Hi, I'm from Townsville Nth Qld, Australia, I found this site the other day when googling fire proof cement, so I thought I would join in the fun I am 1/2way through building an oven, having the base and slab poured and am hoping to get the dome built in the next week or so , if I can find the proper cement.
I homebrew and grow fish in the back yard, and I have a beard

    Cheers

    Welcome.

Don't beards get too hot up north?

          Hi Axl and welcome aboard.
What we call the poor man's mortar is a great alternative to the expensive refractory high temperature adhesives.
1 part portland cement, 1 part quick lime, 1 part fireclay and 3 parts brickie sand!
Wet your bricks before applying the mix (as you should do with ordinary mortars anyway) and you have an excellent cheap mix.

          Cheers.

            Hi Axl,
I can point you in the direction of a few folk who have built brick ovens, one of whom has quite a lot of left over materials he wants to unload.
