  • Greetings from South Jersey

I love to cook and have always wanted a wood fired oven. I found a treasure trove of old bricks on Craigslist and figured now's the time. The picture below is about 2/3, still need to pick up the rest. My helpers were key in stacking them all

I've put the word out to all my friends, looking for various materials. So far have all the cinder block for the stand, concrete mesh, some flue liner and all the rebar I need.

Bonus,...just found a brand new 3.5 cubic foot cement mixer for $150, that arrives in two days. Once I get that I can start in earnest. The plan is to pour the pad this Sunday and build the stand the weekend after.

congratulations on your decision! We gathered material for a good 2 years and are very glad we did. Almost 70% of our finished oven includes salvaged and recycled materials. We also made quite a few calls for the firebrick and found out that in our area the prices can differ up to 25 cents per brick so do your homework! Good luck!
