Cement with the cob??

I've got Kiko Denzer's book and like it a lot and also have Alan Watt's book. Alan is in Australia and suggests putting about 10% portland cement with the cob mix. I haven't seen this suggestion elsewhere. Can anyone tell me if this is advisable? Anyone with experience using this type cob?

just seen no one has replied......don't think wer'e are rude...you might try to repost in the section "other oven types" further down the forum page. You are more likely to have someone with the right info for you rather than other first timers

I did a pizza oven building course with Alan Watt, at the time I thought the guy had all the answers and built my first oven using his techniques.

After finding this forum I tore down my first oven and built the second one properly.

Given that Portland cement doesn't like high temp and is likely to break down, the addition of lime to the cob would be preferable. Perhaps lime for the inner face and cement for the rest. If applying the mix by hand, any lime in it will be pretty savage on the skin of your hands, suggest you wear rubber gloves.

I am still more interested in the discussion on Beer...

There is a good rice beer made near here named Special Export ... one of my favorites.

Beer.
I lived in Munchen Germany for 1 year. When I went to Germany, I didn't drink nor smoke, now I drink good beer and smoke.(turkey, duck, pastrami,chicken,venison, lamb), you get my drift.
