  • G'day From Oz

G'day guys & gals, another Australian here to either raise, or lower the standard. Take your pick.

Anyway, came across this excellent site in my travels to try and work out how to build the WFO - Pizza Oven. Have just built (February 2013) a new home and part of the grand scheme is to have an outdoor BBQ & WFO area.

Currently I'm just finishing off a brick letterbox, well, lets call it a gun emplacement, because it's definitely over engineered. I needed the excuse so I've got some sorta 'brickie' skills for when I tackle the WFO brickwork. Work should begin sometime soon(ish). Gotta finish the letterbox, put up a shed, pour concrete for the base of the BBQ area....pwhew....hard work, best I have a beer I reckon.

I'll be the one asking all the dumb questions

Hi mate, I'm just starting extensions, my oven's been built for a few years now so in effect I've done things arse about! Never mind, we have to eat while we're building! Good luck with the build!

      Yeah, cheers mate.

Looking forward to 'the build'. Plenty of inspiration in this forum, as well as support especially when I get 'stuck' on something. Seeing that I intend to do the dome Pompei style I reckon the last few courses seem to be the 'tricky' bit.

Welcome Reccymech - You will find all of the inspiration for perspiration here. Plenty of good advice and honest critique delivered in good faith provided you seek it. I have nearly finished my 36" version and am down to choosing the finish material for the dome, tiles for the flat surfaces and making doors.

All the best with your build and for what it is worth, I would not hesitate to build another with my newly developed skills and the information this forum contains. Given that I had not used a trowel before I am very happy with what can be done with an open ear and some care and determination.

        Cheers ...... Steve

          Cheers 'Greenie'.

I'm reading through heaps of threads and as stated there are a few notable subscribers who have built excellent WFO (first timers) and freely pass on their knowledge base. Great to read about and learn.

I see that there are a number of us Aussies 'onboard', bit of a Gum Tree Mafia so to speak.
