Hi Crawfish,
That is a pretty spectacular setup you have there and what a setting
I think my oven size will be pretty similar to yours.
Mine is around 700mm wide(28") x 850mm long(34").
Ill be watching with interest to see the final product.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers,John.
Mine is just a little larger
The outdoor kichen was already built, so we made it fit
Glad u like my backyard,
I roasted a pork roast tonight, then sliced it to sit in bbq sauce for a bit
More pics on sunday i hope
1st scary fire.
The dome is not insulated yet.
After 2 hours, the dome is clearing and partway down the sides
The top of the dome is over 1200 degrees
the outside top of the dome brick is over 300 degrees.
I can't wait to try it with insulation.
looking good here
thanks for all the input and advice
michael
Scary fire #2
With the dome cleared, vermicrete below floor was 6 degrees above ambient temp.
Minor cracks as predicted by others on here
Hoping for pizza in a few weeks
Hi Michael,
Are you using the drying procedure suggested on this site? i.e : a small fire a day for 7 days, increasing the temp each time. ?
How are you measuring the temps below and above the oven.Do you have thermocouples in there?
Also i'd like to see what type of cracks i can expect to get without worrying.Do you have any photos?
Thanks mate,
John.

Yes, i started small, took a week to get bigger.
No tc, i am using a laser thermometer.
Vermicrete was 6 degrees above ambient temp, as the dome cleared.
Reading the forum, iit seems like cracks happen
Ok so i wont be falling backwards when small cracks appear, good to know
Whats your plan for insulation?
Regards,John.
I will get some pics tomorrow
3 layers of ceramic blanket, with 5-1 vermicrete and chicken wire over the blanket.
To be capped with a brick enclosure, with a rolled top.
I think we have 4 more work-days to finish it up

Sounds good Michael, you are at the final stretch you lucky bugger
Next weekend we will:
Trim those bricks on the dome
Insulate with ceramic blanket and vermi-crete
Add 12v lighting tied into my landscape circuit using flex and appliance wire
Brick around the flue
For some reason, i can add only one pic at a time
This shows where we had to extend thedepth of the outdoor kitchen to accomadate the length of the oven.
We did this with blocks and the voids were all filled.

Im really liking the use of brickwork.Im thinking of incorporating some brickwork also otherwise it will look a bit bland just rendered.
Also when you upload pics just use the same process you have used but repeat it 4 times to upload 4 pics.It wont let you browse for 4 photos and upload at once but you can select them individually and upload them individually before completing your post.
Hopefully that made sense.
Michael its looking good ,keep it up.
Regards John.
