  • Newbie with Old Colonial Oven

My husband and I recently bought an old colonial home built c. 1760. There are 7 fireplaces but the one in our (now) dining room would have been the original kitchen. There is a large cooking hearth and much to my delight a beehive oven! The new lining of the chimney should be completed on Saturday and I'd like to try it out on Sunday - Any advice for an old oven like this?

The door is a little over a foot wide and the oven goes back about 3 feet there is a black cast iron door

Fire it very slowly to begin, it should be fine, though.

I have restored several of those when I lived in New England and would love to see pictures of yours.

I don't have the greatest photos but I'll try to take some nicer ones this weekend
