  • WFO with BBQ build, tips needed.

I am new to this forum, but seems there are some knowledgable and helpful folk here so hoping to get tips on my outdoor areas next stage.
I want to install a wood fired oven for pizza and roasts etc, and must admit I don't think building oven from scratch is the best idea.
My intention is to build a "stand" for the oven, with BBQ built next to it. When I say stand, I want to create a stone (or render) finished unit that has the oven on one side and BBQ on the other.
Lack of knowledge on heat issues, structural strength, finishing etc are things I am concerned about.
I have second hand bricks, and blue stone, available for wall building, but will bricks do the job?
How solid does the base slab need to be?
What type of oven will suit the pizza/ roast for the family suit?
How long is a piece of string?
These are the type of questions I have. Happy to post pics of area and sketches of intentions, if anyone has the time and knowledge to help me would be more than appreciated.

Welcome! You are in the right place!

That is a lot of questions! Photos and/or a sketch would be good so that we can provide more specific help.

Take a look at the ovens that Forno Bravo sells, They are ideal if you want to buy an oven and install it as part of an outdoor kitchen.

I agree with boer you are definitely in the right place and everyone here is friendly and willing to give their honest/expert opinions. As you read through some of the great builds you will learn all about structure and heat and finishing etc. create your own build thread start posting questions and ideas and people from the group will get involved and help you make the right decisions.

I am researching your string question and will get back to you on that.

There have been several Aussie builds where they used a couple different kits, one precut brick and the other a cast as well as building from scratch, both kits were from Aussie land. Go to the Aussie section and look around there.

Yes you are in the right place. go to the Aussie forums section on Forno.

Personally I wouldn't muck around I would be using firebricks for my oven and build it according to the forno plans and insulate insulate insulate is first rule of thumb.

Your bricks will work but why not do it right the first time, assuming you can afford the firebricks.

Some guys here have used a precut kit check out Litekeeper build in South Australia the kit he used I nearly did too but opted to go the self build and cut road. 3 or 4 have used this kit and posted on this site.

The base slab should be at least 100mm thick mine is about 300mm [mainly due to the location and that it is cantilevered above a deck].

Also check out this thread this is the best place to start

              http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f2/n...res-15133.html

Start a thread in the Australia area on the forum and this will allow the locals to assist you more easily. everyone else from around the globe will offer their tips too.

Too look for kits just google Pizza Oven Kits the one I am referring to is on the first page in Melbourne. This kit has become very popular and comes with everything needed.

Marc, I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned it yet to you but, Forno Bravo offers a set of plans here for free that may make you feel more comfortable building one instead of buying. Either method you choose, you've come to the right spot for help.
