  • newbie from Georgia!

    Hello from central Georgia!
My name is Mike and have been competing in professional bbq contests for ten years. I cook on Stumps Smokers which are insulated, gravity fed charcoal smokers. I love bbqing and cooking outdoors. Grilling and cooking in Dutch ovens included. I also enjoy making my own sausage and jerky.
Recently I have gotten very interested in wood fired ovens.I have a lot to learn!
Thanks for allowing me into this great forum.

Welcome to the forum! It seems a little slow here this time of year - hopefully things will pick up as the weather warms a bit.

There is another member here making good (and fast) progress on an oven in the Macon area - maybe not too far from you:

Keep us posted on your build!

      Welcome Aboard!

you are in the right place to pursue the WFOs as they are called here. Best place to start is the FB plans available from the store. It covers most of the details to start planning and the rest of the knowledge is only a question away.

        Mike, welcome to the forum.
It is great to see another one of the Brethren over here . You won't regret building a WFO. If you haven't already, do take your time and study as many oven builds as you can. But, as Texman advised, download the free plans first. You can't go wrong by following the FB plans.

Welcome Mike - you will get plenty of advice from the forum and planning is the trick. It is best to know what you want your oven to do and look like before starting and the better the planning the better the build.

With your expertise in outdoor cooking you probably have plenty to offer us as well.

Good luck with it and I look forward to following your build.
          Cheers ......... Steve

            Re: newbie from Georgia!

            Mike,

Welcome! You've come to the right place in learning to build a proper wood-fired oven. Given your (legit) smoking background, you will no doubt bring an understanding of process/heat control and get it whipped shortly.

If you can, check out the excellent thread Lee put together listing well-thought-out and executed builds that are creative and push existing standards. If you haven't read through these previously, you can find them here:

            http://www.fornobravo.com/forum/f2/n...res-15133.html

Like Gulf says, no regrets from building a WFO, except that you didn't do it sooner. Just make sure you plan (on paper or pc) every detail you can think of before you start in order to avoid surprises later on. Oh, and post lots of pics.

            John
